My next most thrilling moment was finding out the little boy I took care of could understand what I said to him.

Hard question
by dgp ina question for all those who managed to do it.
when you realize that it's unrealistic to expect someone in the wt to ever leave, and when you see the damage it does you to keep hoping, and to keep trying to get them out, how do you manage the pain?.
what do you do when you know that someone has spoiled the only life that person will ever have, yet you can't reach to them?.

Doubtfully Yours,
Don't tell me you are a true JW. I know that a true JW doesn't come and post on these websites. If you are here you are blatantly disregarding orders from the WTS. You are not honest, you don't stand for Jehovah or anything if you sneak around like you are.
Do you think it is right to post here and call yourself a TRUE JW?
Do you think you will convince me that you are in a religion that tells God's truth just because you are breaking their rules to come and say how happy you are?
The cult that you are in is a horrible one . It demands that people lie to maintain a family connection--or lose their family. My daughter was baptised at 13 and by the time she was 17--and what a good girl she was--and honest. So honest. A neighbor called to tell me that my girl had knocked on her door on her way home from school and come in crying. She didn't know what was wrong with her .. she was lying on Stella's sofa all curled up sobbing "I'm going to lose my mom, I'm going to lose my mom."
She just couldn't believe it, she just didn't believe it. She knew if she didn't hang on she'd be DF'd and she thought she'd lose me.
That is screwed up. But my daughter was honest..
You are not honest. At least not as long as you all yourself a TRUE JW.

I would be lying not to say that the greatest thrill was after a long winter of trying to "get right" with God but nothing got "right". I had quit trying. But then he did something very clear, open and unexpected that I knew he was really around and loved me like he does everyone else. A few days after, I remember that it was still frozen outside and we had the little girls bundled up after dark. We were in the field where later that spring we were going to plant tomatoes to sell. I looked up and the moon was mostly full and there were some few clouds. The branches were bare and my husband was talking about how we would do everything and all I could think about was how God was somewhere around and cared even up there on our mountain.

The Bible, Why not Reliable?
by sayitsnotso inokay here is my thread to discuss this.
i believe the bible is inspired by god and reliable.
many argue it's neither.

I riffed off the old classic story of the Blind Men and the Elephant. Just changing it to fit the silly way conversations about God go so often.
The way we people laugh at what we can't see even when so obviously therehas been evidence in our hands that something is around us and has been in the life experience of others. We laugh if others say :I know something happened here or: it touched me and then laugh--- only because no one can see and comprehend it.
That's how it seems to me.

A better way of doing it, with regards to the 'God' question. If you're a theist or deist, please answer this question.
by Psychotic Parrot inwhy are you a theist or a deist?
please give any or all reasons why without resorting to a god of the gaps argument.
that is the only condition i am making, since in my (& presumably every other atheist's) opinion, a god of the gaps argument simply isn't convincing enough to demonstrate that there is a god, only that there might be a god.. thank you.. p.s.

VoidEater Asked, what activities have you engaged in to move your inquiry forward?
Did anyone here see the film Groundhog Day?
Do you recall that the obnoxious character played by Bill Murray? Murray played a real jerk. He is an arrogant, bored TV weatherman who finds himself in a time-warp while on assignment. It seems his extraordinary selfishness has earned him the opportunity to relive his self-centered over and over again.
That day, Groundhog Day, he was rude and sarcastic to everyone without exception--even though he wants the admiration of his beautiful co worker. He realizes he is trapped in that day and persists in his vile behavioruntil he realizes that he is not benefited. So he undertakes a transformation of his personality and this seems to remake the marred parts of that day.
But there is one thing he cannot make happen as he wants: He cannot get his co-worker into bed with him. He perfects his technique, he learns her history, her favorite places and music, flatters and charms her with French poetry and her favorite drink--But ever so close as he might get to her, there was nothing he can do but she sees through his calculated management of her. Slap, slap, and slap.
At last he despairs. He has repeated his efforts with infinite variations and finally accept that he will never win her. So he gives up.At the end of one day he simply loves her and treats her no better than he treats everyone else that day--very kindly. He expects nothing at all.
And he has finally won her. That day has an end.
This may seem frivolous to tell, but it is the only way I can easily say how God dealt with me and how he seems to deal with others.

Jesus disses corporation-led religion??
by not a captive inwe were told that the right corporate "doctrine" makes the right group activity.
but words attributed to jesus at matthew 7 make me wonder if jesus wasn't discouraging that.

We were told that the right corporate "doctrine" makes the right group activity. But words attributed to Jesus at Matthew 7 make me wonder if Jesus wasn't discouraging that.
A small sample--
NIV Bible translates Matthew 7: 22-27: "'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? ' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers.'
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against his house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a crash."
Plural or singular, does it matter to you? What do other translations say?

Sorry, I meant to hit "delete" but hit enter instead.
I'm supposed to be in the thick of packing and moving--but ever since I found this site it has been a-- shall I say it-- God-send for healing. Only two days ago got final word that they had sometime in the previous 3 months announced that I'm out.
Of course I don't have to tell anyone that I'm off the site... it is really silly...But a sign to me at least how vitl you all have been to having some meaningful way to talk people who have been through the soul violence of religion.
God knows that we need Him and each other.
Sorry if anyone got waylaid by this post...
Kick my @%#$ if you see me post any more today!

Has anyone had a WT literature burning party?
by lepermessiah ini keep staring at the bookshelf full of wt literature in my house and keep having visions of a red-orange glow as the flames crawl higher and higher.
my goal is to gather it all together, douse it with lighter fluid, and watch it go!.
ultimately, i dream of my wife being the one who strikes the match and joins me in the celebration.. has anyone had that experience?

I'm moving out and found the last cache of literature--All gone now.
There should be no thread for others to find the trap I fell into. Destroy all of it!
